All students at Mercer Elementary are evaluated using a portfolio assessment process. Each student has his or her own portfolio for academic, social and therapeutic programs. Staff evaluate students at least twice per year and maintain on going information regarding student progress in the portfolio. These documents follow the student throughout their career at Mercer Elementary. When students return to their sending district or move on to MCSSSD's high school, the portfolio follows them. Parents are invited to review the portfolios on a regular basis. When appropriate, students may participate in the selection of materials to be included in their portfolio. Student progress reports are issued three times during the regular school year and once during Extended School Year (ESY). Parent conferences are scheduled twice a year, but parents are encouraged to request a conference at any time.
Mercer Elementary School is a state approved testing site. Students participate in the NJ ASK, GEPA or the Alternative Proficiency Assessment (APA).
