Assistive Technology & Adaptive Equipment
MCSSSD is fortunate to have state-of-the art adaptive equipment and assistive technology. Students use assistive technology throughout their learning experiences as directed by the IEP. An array of assistive technology is available to the students enrolled at the Mercer Elementary School. Augmentative communication systems enable many of the students to communicate expressively through picture symbols and various voice output devices. Devices are deployed in a variety of settings to ensure generalization throughout the school as well as in the community and home environments. Inservice training is provided to staff in the area of assistive technology and augmentative communication. The assistive and educational technology staff work closely with teachers and therapists to maximize communication opportunities.
